Demolished Dollhouse
I am saddened but not entirely surprised. When it was renewed for a second season despite low ratings, my first thought was, “This is gonna be a two-season show.” And I was right.
I’m mad at FOX, at the television industry in general, for not giving shows like this a real chance. It takes time to build an audience for a show where you can’t get the full gist of it by watching a minute or so while channel surfing. Every new show nowadays seems to just be a poor, poor clone of a better show that aired years ago. That’s all the TV execs are comfortable in providing. They’re slaves to their advertising revenue, rather than trying to provide quality content. It’s no wonder why audiences are defecting to cable programming, the internet, gaming consoles, and Netflix in droves, but somehow it seems like the execs are completely baffled. They must be, since they continue to broadcast — and re-new season after season — mind-numbingly simplistic, rehashed idiocy.
I’m mad at Joss Whedon as well. Why return to a network that so cruelly destroyed your other gem of a show, Firefly? I was completely flummoxed by the decision and — though I am a diehard Joss Whedon fan — can’t help but think, “Serves you right, fool.” My open letter to Joss Whedon:
Dear Titan of Dark Fantasy,
I don’t think any established broadcast network today can truly understand — let alone adequately handle — the work that comes out of that brilliant little mind of yours. You deserve better, so just stop it with them. Do whatever is in your power to get another (non-network) channel to pick up Dollhouse for season three. I think all of your work would last substantially longer on Syfy. Try AMC, IFC, even Spike or Sundance, if you have to. Go to HBO or Showtime. Anything but the Big Four. Dong ma?

After watching something like this, I find it extremely hard to believe that we are alone in the universe.
LOL! That is so cool!
<sigh> I miss Firefly so much, sometimes it hurts.
